Demo Portfolio Website

Demo Portfolio Website

The Demo Portfolio website was designed as a demonstration of an idea that ended up turning out better than I expected. During the development of my portfolio website some of my friends were struggling with their own, so I offered them the basic code of my website to help them get started. My argument for doing this (besides being nice) was that we all have to build a website that functions in basically the same way and therefore from a design point of view should be basically the same. As we have been taught things that are radically different usually don’t go down very well. There is a reason that most websites are fundamentally similar and it is because that is what people are used to and expect. If you make something radically different it will often fail. Of course sometimes it’s a miraculous success and you start a new trend in design but often, especially if you are less experienced, it just backfires and you create something that doesn’t work or doesn’t work well.

So, taking that into account, I felt they could take the basic html of my website and build something that looked radically different while having the same functionality and massively reducing the amount of work required. To further demonstrate my point I decided to build a mockup website using my base code. In the space of a couple of hours I built the website presented here.

This website is the result of that process and a proof that my original idea was valid.
